From Pastor Steve

Wildwood Family

The phrase 2020 vision refers to perfect vision.  I don't believe anyone saw coming in 2020 what has transpired.  As a church, there have been many firsts for us this year and, we have seen that God is faithful.  This year has not been what we expected, but it has been fruitful.  Regardless of the circumstances, we have found ourselves in; we know that God is at work through His people. During unprecedented times we have seen that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Early in this pandemic, when we were unable to meet together on Sunday mornings, we went from a church that meets in one location at three different services to an online service that people engaged within hundreds of locations from house to house and street to street at multiple times throughout the week. As much as we missed seeing each other in person, we were reminded that the church is God's people and not  where the group meets.  Our children, students and many of our life groups were able to meet online through Zoom.

During the summer months, we did something we had never done before. We met on Sundays in the park for drive-in church.  Most of us said, “why haven't we done this before.”  It was a blessing to meet together and see faces, even if it was from a distance or through the car window. It was a blessing to meet outside. Our worship and welcome teams were outstanding, setting up and being prepared for church in this new way.

This fall we, moved back inside at three different services.  We have put several safety measures in place with masks, hand washing stations, overflow rooms, extra sanitation, removing rows of chairs in the sanctuary, not shaking hands or hugging and asking people to remain home when they are sick, or have come in direct contact with someone who is ill.  We have continued to provide an excellent online service as well.  It has been good to be back inside, seeing our kids and students meeting together again.  On Wednesday nights starting this fall, we are emphasizing and carving out time for several important ministries. Instead of adding these to everything else we were doing, we have made these a priority.  On the first Wednesday of each month, we have family night.  On the second Wednesday of the month, we have marriage night. The third Wednesday of the month is Sisterhood and the 4th Wednesday of the month is open for something different.  In September we had an awesome outdoor worship service.

Our mission to lead people into a life-giving relationship with Jesus is needed now as much as ever.  As a church, you have been so creative during to find new ways of connecting with people this year. Your heart has been on full display as you have come alongside and cared for those who are hurting.  Your determination to keep on going even when things are hard, or just different than what you are used to, has enabled us to reach people with the good news of Jesus.  Church family continue to love people and take steps of faith.  God is still on the throne.  His promises are true and His power remains.  We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength.
